CiteInPages5: BibDesk with Pages 5.2

James Harrison
For BibDesk users who may be interested…

CiteInPages is a suite of Applescripts that allow the open source reference manager BibDesk to be integrated with Apple's word processor. Using BibDesk templates, working citations containing BibTeX cite keys in a defined format can be dragged or copy/pasted from BibDesk into Pages documents as the documents are edited. CiteInPages replaces these working citations with numbered or author-date in-text citations, creates a correctly-ordered bibliography based on a BibDesk template, and pastes the bibliography into the Pages document. CiteInPages is freely available for use and modification with a BSD license.

CiteInPages5 supports Pages 5.2, with some decrease in functionality that reflects the decreased Applescript capabilities of Pages 5.x compared to previous versions. CiteInPages5 should be able to add additional features as Applescript support develops in the next versions of Pages.

Currently the most important limitation in CiteInPages5 is lack of support for superscript and italic in-text citations, because Applescript in Pages 5.2 does not have access to character styles.

Documentation and download of CiteInPages5 and previous versions for Pages 3 and 4 are available at http://jhh.med.virginia.edu/main/CiteInPages.
